Moving into a furnished apartment in Latin America comes with quirks. Hot water isn't guaranteed, and 'high speed' internet is a relative term. Use this checklist during your tour.

Technomad Essentials

Run a speed test (fast.com) in the specific room where you will work.

Check for dead zones in the bedroom.

Count accessible plugs near the workspace.

Ask for the ISP name (Claro vs Movistar). Fiber (Fibra Optica) is preferred.

The 'Agua' Check

Turn on the shower. Is the pressure pathetic? (Common in top floors).

How is the water heated? Gas (instant) or Electric (tank)? Gas is better.

Flush the toilet. Does it refill quickly?

Run the kitchen tap. Does it smell funky?

Comfort & Security

Visit at 8 PM on a Friday if possible. Is there a salsa bar next door?

Open and close every window. Mosquito screens are a huge plus.

Check the mattress. Is it a rock or a hammock? (Lift the sheet).

Do the keys sticking? Try locking/unlocking the front door from both sides.
